INNOVATIONS PROGRAM at Raritan Valley Academy
Program Description
The
INNOVATIONS Program, at Raritan Valley Academy, has been designed to
serve students with mild to moderate levels of cognitive impairment who
also present with emotional and/or behavioral disabilities. These
students tend to have higher social skills and awareness levels than the
typical student who attends an out-of-district school for pupils with
multiple disabilities and/or autism. They also tend to have
significantly lower academic skills than the average student who is
enrolled in an out-of-district placement for pupils with emotional
and/or behavioral disabilities.
Programmatically, students’ academic needs will be addressed with small
group instruction to address significant academic delays in all
instructional areas. Related services will be provided in accordance
with the INNOVATION Program model and coordination with the individual
student IEPs. Pre-vocational training, job sampling and community
education opportunities will also be made available based on an
assessment of each student’s preferences and abilities. Behaviorally,
students will have the opportunity to earn rewards and privileges in
accordance with the behavioral approach used by the Raritan Valley
Academy. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to be part of
a supportive, therapeutic school community and interact socially with
appropriately identified peers.
